dc.description.abstract | Distribution of foraminifers in the Tarusa, Steshev, and Protva horizons of the Serpukhovian Stage stratotype has been studied in the Zabor'e Quarry. Boundaries of Pseudoendothyra globosa. Eostaffellina decurta, and Eostaffellina protvae zones distinguished here are defined at the first occurrence levels of zonal index species. As is established, boundaries between horizons and foraminiferal zones do not coincide. Neoarchaediscus postrugosus (Reitl.) and "Millerella" tortula Zeller, which appear at the boundary between the Visean and Serpukhovian stages, can be regarded as markers of that stratigraphic level. Species "Millerella" tortula Zeller, Janischewskina delicata Mal., and Brenckleina rugosa (Brazhn.), which are important for stratigraphic subdivision and correlation, have been identified for the first time in the Moscow region. It is shown based on the microfacies analysis that foraminifers populated calm settings of a shallow sea that was shoaling with time up to the appearance of algal banks. | |
