Abstract:
The authors of developed the geophysical interpretation of the generation and motion of macroscale ionization inhomogeneities in the ionosphere (MIIIs) in the altitude region of maximal electron concentration. The objects are detected on the basis of pulse variations δfc of the critical frequency fc in the F2 region. The data obtained at planetary chains of automatic ionospheric stations (AISs) confirmed the hypothesis about the appearance of positive MIIIs (extension of electron concentration) in the vicinity of the epicenters of catastrophic earthquakes (M > 5) recorded 10–15 h prior to the main shock (more than 50 cases were analyzed).
