dc.description.abstract The authors used the gravitational admittance technique in an investigation of the isostasy of the Urals, in which they also employed an analysis of the coherence between topography and the gravity anomalies, plus a semiquantitative analysis of the length of the foredeep. Mutually consistent estimates of the thickness of the lithosphere were obtained. Three different approaches, i.e., gravitational admittance, the length of the foredeep, and analysis of the coherence between gravitational anomalies and topography give the following mutually consistent results: (1) the strong cold lithosphere of the Russian plate supports the Urals; (2) the gravitational anomalies of the Urals zone are governed both by topography and by high density loads at depth; (3) analysis of the coherence between gravitational anomalies and topography is an effective method of investigating isostasy in continental regions.
