Abstract:
As our input information in the study of the West Siberian Plate, we use data from magnetic and gravimetric sounding and seismic exploration by the combined refracted-wave technique and the common depth point technique. We supplement these data with facies analyses and petrographic data on the rocks of the sedimentary cover and the folded basement of the plate, taken from the published literature and from geologic data bases. As an example, we describe a section through the northwestern part of the plate, from the Shchuch'ye upwarp northeastward via the Baydarata downwarp and the Nurma upwarp. The fact that the paleotectonics of West Siberia is susceptible to geophysical analysis enables us to step up work on geodynamic models of this plate, which are urgently needed in the solution of fundamental and applied problems of geology and geophysics.
