dc.description.abstract The existence of anomalously high heat flows near the surface would make it fundamentally impossible to solve the inverse problem of geothermometry, i.e., the determination on the basis of the heat flow, of the temperatures at depths greater than these corresponding to the highest calculated temperature. In practice, the reliability of calculated values of T for zones higher up in the section is also poor, particularly if there are young sources of heat anomalies in that section. The global thermal model was improved by using geothermometer equations However, the use of such equations for regional correlations has hitherto been limited. The present paper attempts to eliminate this gap.
