dc.description.abstract The systematic, symmetrical distribution of the abundances of minerals that has been identified in the case of the earth and confirmed by data for the moon and meteorites is a general law of the universe, and as a consequence, symmetry is universal in the mineral kingdom. It can be modeled by using a table of 32 classes or species of finite crystallographic symmetry. Table I is a slightly altered version of Boldyrev's well-known table, in which the rows represent the seven crystallographic systems (the triclinic and monoclinic systems are combined into a single row) and the columns represent the seven types of symmetry classes. These are expressed numerically in terms of the orders of symmetry elements of the given class). The order of symmetry increases from top to bottom in each column and from right to left in the rows. to left in the rows. It has been shown statistically that despite a rapid increase in the number of known terrestrial minerals, the ratios of their various categories, systems and classes tend to be constant. We can thus use these ratios (percentages) as constants or 'crystallographic-mineralogical clarkes' (CMC), forming the basis for a symmetry statistics of the minerals. Thus, the table of the 32 classes of finite crystallographic symmetry not only is useful for classification purposes, but also embodies the universal law of correspondence of symmetry and mineral statistics. Its place in natural science is equal to that of Mendeleyev's periodic table.
