dc.description.abstract In the present paper we describe a method of using multiband satellite photographic data, obtained by the Kosmos satellites, for the trophic classification of lake systems. The best results were obtained from double-negative photographs made in the third channel, in the spectral interval from 700 to 840 nm. The reason is that reflection by the water in this interval is not affected by the albedo of the lake bottom or by the concentration of dissolved organic matter. Thus, existing methods of determining the relative transparency, chlorophyll 'a', and total phosphorus from satellite photographs can be used for a trophic classification of lake systems.
