dc.description.abstract In a earlier paper (Su and Harsh, 1994), we presented a free energy of formation for imogolite based on solubility studies and including a formation constant for a monomeric, soluble aluminosilicate complex (Browne and Driscoll, 1992). Farmer and Lumsdon (1994) have argued that the aluminosilicate formation constant is too high, calling into question solubility determinations utilizing this value. We have recalculated the log K value for imogolite dissolution using the new value for the aluminosilicate species. The result is a slight, but insignificant, increase in the log K for imogolite dissolution, supporting our earlier contention that the free energy of imogolite is larger than found in previous studies.
