dc.description.abstract	The time variation of background seismicity was studied in the Gulf of Avacha, Kamchatka, where a M 7.75 earthquake had earlier been predicted to occur. An analysis of detailed seismological observations conducted for 33 years suggests a seismic gap with higher activity around it.
