dc.description.abstract The author's data on the migration and recurrence of great Pacific earthquakes, derived at the global scale of the Pacific belt and at the local scale of the northern Kurils-Kamchatka region, indicate that the southern Kuril M ≃ 8 earthquake of October 4, 1994, is likely to be a precursor of a great (M ≥ 7.6) event expected to occur in southern Kamchatka sometime in the late 20th to the early 21st century.
