dc.description.abstract Possibilities are discussed for the fast determination of seismic velocities in ocean-continent transition zones based on recordings of oceanic earthquakes, where a third phase (T-phase) arrives besides the ordinary P and S, this being the hydroacoustic component of the signal. The present analysis is based on earthquake signals recorded on the board of a drifting vessel in the northwest Pacific using OBS's deployed in the Northeast Indian Ocean.
