dc.description.abstract | New data on Upper Cretaceous deposits exposed to the north of Yaroslavl and to the southwest of Vladimir are considered in order to show that the Khot'kovo Opokas, dated back to the Turonian by some researchers, are actually younger and correspond to the Coniacian-Santonian level. The Turonian age is identified for underlying beds of carbonate clay, because they yielded cephalopods and radiolarians typical of this stage, and also an assemblage of early Turonian foraminifers. The beds are attributed to the Chernevo Formation. Holo- and parastratotype of this formation are described, and its stratigraphic range is outlined. New data suggest connections between the Turonian sea basins of the East European and West Siberian paleobiogeographic provinces. | |
