dc.description.abstract	The structure of the Lower Cretaceous rhyncholites H. (Hadrochelius) optivus and H. (H.)fissum is studied using SEM. Phyncholites are shown to consist of many alternating homogeneous layers of granular and cryptocrystalline calcite; each of these layers has an identical ultrastructure.
