Abstract

The microfossil taxa reported on in this book areprimarily foraminifera, although there are some chaptersthat include discussion of the use of arcellaceans,chrysophytes, diatoms, dinoflagellates, ostracodes andpollen in the field of environmental micropaleontology.This book brings together reviews of applications ofspecific taxa as well as individual case studies. Thecontents of the book are geared more towards geologistsin terms of taxa and some of the questions beingaddressed. However, it is of interest to anyone studyinganthropogenic influences on aquatic environments. Inthe preface, R. Martin identifies the target audience forthis book as workers in academia and industry. In myopinion, it is written and put together for researcherswith some prior knowledge of microfossils andtaxonomy. This book presents an array of studies thatbroadens the view of the use of microfossils in environmental research. The authors of the nineteenchapters represent ten different countries from aroundthe world.
