dc.description.abstract The authors investigated the lithology and geochemistry of the deposits of the diamond sequence in the interval from limestone L1 to coal 14 in area with various degrees of postdiagenetic alteration (the metamorphic grade of the coals ranges from cannel coal to anthracite). The interval tested, ranging in thickness from 65 to 300 m, is represented in all areas by clay and mudstone, sandstones and thin partings of limestone and coal. The sampling areas were chosen away from the arches of anticlinal structures and from large faults. More than 200 samples were collected and analyzed in the interval. The determinations were made by optical, spectral and chemical methods. The clay minerals and carbonates in the fine-particle fractions were identified by X-ray diffractometry. In addition to standard methods, the atomic absorption and isotope geochemical techniques were used. Study results are discussed.
