dc.description.abstract In many problems in nonlinear seismoacoustics one requires reliably measured in-situ data on the square of the elastic nonlinear response (SENP) or rocks. In this paper we present the first experimental measurements of SENP at depths of 100 m made by interwell sounding involving modulation of the acoustic waves by seismic fields. This method was developed for testing building materials. It has been adapted to rock specimens in the laboratory, whereby one can use both static and dynamic modulating fields.
