dc.description.abstract The upward migration of hydrocarbon gases from pay strata in seismically active oil and gas regions apparently is a penetrative process that produces maximum saturation of the sorptive capacity of the rocks overlying the pool, including the rock materials of the organomineral layer. This phenomenon is particularly pronounced in rocks overlying oil and gas accumulations at depths of 1 km or less. The use of commercial vibration devices is an extremely promising means of geochemical prospecting for oil and gas; its promise will be greatly increased if the prospecting is performed in oil and gas regions either located directly in geodynamically active regions or in nearby areas with high seismicity. This paper describes one such study.
