dc.description.abstract Quantitative characteristics are provided for horizontal and vertical ground-surface deformation on Karymsky and Akademii Nauk volcanoes measured after a large (M = 7.0) earthquake and a swarm of smaller events in the Karymsky volcanic center and after the outbreak of an eruption at the active Karymsky Volcano and a simultaneous subaqueous eruption in the Akademii Nauk caldera. The instrumentally measured horizontal extension (as much as 2.33 m over a distance of 3.6 km) and vertical subsidence and uplift with a total amplitude of 1.5 m are the highest so far recorded from Kamchatkan volcanoes during the period of instrumental observation.
