dc.description.abstract The study of fossil bacteria suggests that the character of sedimentation in ancient epicontinental basins strongly depended on the abundance of microorganisms. At present, the appearance of eukaryotes, coelomates, etc., as well as the oxygenation of the atmosphere, took place much earlier than was formerly believed.
