dc.description.abstract This paper briefly introduces the tectonic environment, geology, metallogeny, typical mineral deposits and metallogenic model of the Altay metallogenic belt in Kazakhstan. The Rudny Altay in Kazakhstan is an important VHMS (volcanics-hosted massive sulphide deposit) type of copper - lead - zinc polymetallic metallogenic belt in the world, and hosts tens of large and superlarge deposits. VHMS type of the copper - lead - zinc polymetallic deposits was formed in a riftogenic stage. They occur in basalt - rhyolite bimodal volcanic rocks and terrigenous clastic sediments. The ore-related volcanism is mostly in the Givetian (380 370 Ma), with some in the Early Devonian and Late Devonian. After the Devonian, remobilization, transportation, and redeposition in many stratiform deposits of the Rudny Altay formed during the riftogenic stage are associated with subduction, collision and magmatism on the continental margin. Granite-related W, Sn, Nb, Ta, Li and rare metal deposits formed in the Early Permian.
