A possible explanation of variations in the spatial localization of stresses and earthquakes related to them is given. It is assumed that the pressure gradient between the bottom and upper surface, tensile stresses and gravitation are the basic factors, governing a motion of merging plate. Analytical solution of problem on tensile mantle flows is suggested and possible reasons of changing in stressed state of mantle in the regions of continental collision are given. A model of two-dimensional flow of mantle is considered.
