STRATOTYPE OF THE FAMENNIAN VOLGOGRAD HORIZON IN THE RUSSIAN PLATFORM

Abstract

Stratotype sections of the lower Famennian Volgograd Horizon, which are located in the Umet-Linevo paleodepression, the northeastern Volgograd area, are described. Lithological-geophysical characteristics of borehole sequences, correlation and paleogeological profile of the Frasnian-Famennian boundary beds of the Volgograd region are presented. Stratigraphic ranges of characteristic spore species of the Volgograd Horizon are defined. Palynological data elucidate correlation of the Frasnian-Famennian boundary beds in the Russian platform and the Urals. Distribution areas of the Volgograd Horizon deposits in the Russian platform are outlined.
