Carbonate material of the glauconite-bearing horizon underwent intensive recrystallization during early diagenesis, and that glauconite is a product of that very stage of early diagenesis, and that glauconite is a product of that very stage of early diagenetic alteration. The driving force behind such processes was the decomposition of organic matter in the sediment. The glauconitic layer chosen seems optimal as a marker dating the lower boundary of the upper Eocene. The paper describes the experimental materials and procedures, and it discusses the study results.
