MAPPING OF THE UPPER MANTLE IN THE PAMIRS-HINDU KUSH REGION FROM DATA ON ABSORPTION IF SHORT-PERIOD TRANSVERSE WAVES

Abstract

This paper presents new data on the characteristics of the absorption field for short-period transverse waves in the upper mantle of the region. Traces obtained at fixed and temporary stations of the Multidisciplinary Seismological Expedition of the Institute, located in the Caucasus, the Urals, Turkmenia, Northern Kazakhstan and the Altai, were used. The stations had vertical narrow-band channels with maximum gain near 1 Hz. More than 500 traces from crustal and deep-focus earthquakes with focal depths of up to 150 km that occurred at epicentral distances of 1500 to 2500 km were processed. Study results are discussed.
