The effect of diamond mechanical activation (grinding and homogenization) on cohenite synthesis was studied experimentally and theoretically. For the first time the possibility is demonstrated for participation of grinding body's steel material in direct mechanochemical synthesis of cohenite-based composite using diamond and quartz' abrasive-reactive properties. Abrasive wear of the planetary mill steel grinding bodies under fixed mechanical activation conditions was measured and modeled. Mechanochemical processes in the mill with steel fittings were identical for activation of diamond and for the system molten quartz-graphite.
