Any fluctuations in the ground water table which disrupt the capillary equilibrium of the moisture result in desorption of radon from the capillary surfaces. This fact is extremely important both for explaining the nature of the radon anomalies in the atmosphere of subsoils and for evaluating their prognostic potential. A series of investigations was run in 1983-84 near Leninabad in the zone affected by the runoff of the Syr-Dar'ya River, whose valley is located in the zone of the regional Syr-Dar'ya deep fault. Studied the was β-activity of shortlived radon decay products (RaB and RaC). A modified SRP-68-02 standard radiometric apparatus was used. The β-activity was determined hourly with an error not exceeding ±10 of the measured value. Study results are discussed.
