ON AMPLIFICATION OF SEISMIC WAVES NEAR FAULTS

Abstract

Phenomenon of amplification of seismic waves near faults has been considered. Theory describing amplification of rock destruction near faults has been generalized for case of uniform waves which are incident at angle upon contact with loss of strength. Viscous deformations on the contact have been taken into account in the theory. Equations describing reflected and refracted amplification waves have been derived. General conditions of arising the amplification have been determined. Evaluations of parameters controlling the process have been obtained for particular cases. The amplification is connected with energy of stressed rocks.
