Among tens of investigated lakes and ponds in Altai region only bottom sediments of artificial pond near Porozhnee settlement (Central Altai) contain iron-manganese nodules. The data on the sediment and nodule chemical composition and formation history, soil structure and subsoil water composition in the near-pond zone are discussed. The uniqueness of the pond is attributed to geohydrochemical condition in the considered area. Alkaline medium of subsoil waters favored active migration of Ca, Mn, Mg, Ba, Co and Mo inclined to mobility under such conditions and even inert Cr has high concentration, especially in swampy hollow waters.
