Soluble carbon-bearing matter in quartzites of the Ol'khon Group in the Ol'khon area was studied by modern analytical procedures, including (1) fractionation by eluents (chloroform, benzene, and acetonitrile) in a microcolumn with inverted phase C18 and (2) thin-layer chromatography and mass spectrometry of the fractions. The matter consists of multicomponent mixtures. Of about 150 compounds detected in these mixtures, 55 were identified, including various hydrocarbons, oxygen-containing alcohols and acids, carboxylic esters, and Cl- and P-containing compounds. The composition, mass fragmentograms, and structure of the most interesting carbon-containing compounds of the Ol'khon metamorphic rocks are reported for the first time. Octicizer (2-ethylhexyl diphenyl ester of phosphoric acid), earlier synthesized in the United States, is first described as a natural compound.
