EVOLUTION OF THE KURILE ISLAND ARC

Abstract

How did the Kurile Island Arc develop, and on what foundation? Does it now rise or subside? What is the relationship between its tectonic structure and volcanic activity? These important geological questions are still unresolved. This article discusses the various theories and their shortcomings and discusses some conclusions.
