The composition of mollusks from the hole near the town of Anan'ev (Ukraine) has been analyzed. The green sand and clay beds, which in Moldavia and Western Ukraine (Podolia) are referred to as the Podolian Formation, do not always correspond to the lower Badenian. The available data do not suggest any relationship between the Western and Eastern Paratethys in the early Badenian-Tshokrakian time. A connection between the two basins mainly occurred at the end of the late Badenian-Konkian period.
