GENUS PLATANUS L. (PLATANACEAE DUMORTIER) IN THE PALEOCENE OF KAMCHATKA

Abstract

This is the first reliable record of the genus Platanus based on pistillate heads and leaves from the Paleocene of Western Kamchatka. The leaves were previously described as P. basicordata Budants. A new species, P. stenocarpa N. Maslova, sp. nov. is erected for the pistillate heads. Microstructural distinctions of Platanus and of other genera of extinct platanoids are discussed.
