When underground water is discharged in an area occupied by an alluvial fan the situation arises in which substandard (from the point of view of potable water) underground water with increased hardness is formed. The paper examines a situation of this type using the example of the alluvial fan of the river Sardobsay in Northern Tadzhikistan. The results of the study form the basis for conclusions about the reason for this reduction in water quality and recommendations for the collection of underground water as drinking water in such regions.
