At present the chief method of investigating the structure of the crust is deep seismic sounding (DSS). When interpreting DSS data, the main focus is on kinematic characteristics of refracted waves, and practically no consideration is given to their dynamic characteristics. The reason is in part that DSS has begun to be based on rather complex models of the geologic medium, in which the velocity is represented as a rather complicated function of the spatial coordinates, whereas existing techniques for interpreting dynamic characteristics are valid only for simple models consisting of uniform layers. In this paper, the authors attempt to partially fill this gap by presenting methods for numerical solution of the inverse problem, thus making it possible to calculate the absorption characteristics as functions of the coordinates of a point in a two-dimensionally nonuniform geologic medium. They developed the initial version for the purpose of processing systems of amplitude curves.
