dc.description.abstractImaging spectrometry from aircraft or satellite borne sensors has many potential ecological applications. This paper reviews its use for the remote sensing of foliar biochemical concentration, as this is an ecological application of remote sensing that is unique to imaging spectrometry. Attention is focussed on the development of methodologies, drawing where relevant on theory and techniques from both outside and inside remote sensing. Examples from the fields of near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) and geological remote sensing, along with an extensive reference list, provide an introduction to some of the ecological opportunities offered by imaging spectrometry.
