Assemblages of spores, pollen, and organic-walled phytoplankton were studied in the Middle Eocene-Oligocene sequence of Severnye Ergeni. The dinocyst zonal assemblages were described, and anomalies in their composition related to the temperature regime and hydrology of the sea basin were outlined. Anoxic environments in the Bartonian and Chattian time were recognized. The considerable role of the Adnatosphaeridium-Glaphyrocysta-Cyclonephelium group indirectly implies a warmer state and freshening of the sea basin of the Solenaya Balka time interval; a warmer climate is also suggested by presence of various thermophilic taxa in pollen assemblages and by the greater amount of pollen of Fagaceae and subtropical plants.
