Geological and geophysical data for the Kara Sea (i.e., seismic studies by the common depth point reflection method, the refraction correlation method and gravimetric data) have identified the presence of a North Kara Sheet and of a South Kara Syneclise, separated by the Northern Megarampart that runs from the Taymyr Peninsula to the northern tip of Novaya Zemlya. Our investigations, particularly the seismic studies, have elucidated the regional structure of the sedimentary cover on the North Kara Sheet, and have indicated the main structures of the consolidated crust in the South Kara Syneclise.
