Studying the mechanism governing the humidification of the land surface and predicting anomalous humidification (droughts or excess humidification) are among the highest-priority problems of present-day hydrometeorology. To describe the humidification process, we turn to the equation relating the water balances of the atmosphere and land surface. The results can be applied directly to the classification of climates, the construction of humidification monitoring systems, and the development of techniques for long-term forecasting of humidification.
