The authors have estimated the structural perfection (CSR and MD)2 of real crystals in specially selected suites of todorokite samples that were taken from two types of such crusts, differing in age, structure and mineral composition of their ore shells. It was found that these parameters tend to vary with the conditions of formation and type of paragenesis, and that there are broader opportunities for using X-ray methods to solve genetic problems. The fourth-component method was chosen from among the others to determine the submicroscopic structural parameters of todorokite because the latter has a specific X-ray diffraction pattern; the 9.6-angstrom reflection for the manganese minerals todorokite, buserite and asbolite is diagnostic Study results are discussed.
