This study looks at the nature and tectonic position of the Protogaean deposits in the Tien Shan system. It confirms the view that old endogene ore mineralization in the polycyclic Tien Shan is relatively poorly developed, but becomes more productive and widespread in each successive cycle, having been deposited especially extensively and intensively in the Hercynian (Devonian-Permian) metallogenic epoch. In other words, such mineralization is synchronous with the geologic cycle of tectogenesis that produced folded regions that include these old rock blocks.
