Because the concept of comminution (atomization) energy E underlies the analyses of the physical properties of materials, the author investigated the relationship between the specific atomization energy E m (E m = E/M, where E is the atomization energy of a mole of material and M is its molecular weight) and the main parameters of the kinetic equation for the mechanical strength of solids. Subjects covered include microcracking, negative density fluctuations, dilatons, thermal expansion, isothermal compressibility, and others.
