dc.description.abstractThis work describes the Dutch participation to the first International Polar Year, 1882-1883. The main objective of the expedition was to take meteorological and other scientific observations and assess the navigability of the Kara sea during the winter. It was undertaken on the steamship Varna along with the Danish Polar Expedition abord the Dymphna.
