Results of the lithogeochemical and mineralogical investigations of the superlong (46 m) core MD01-2415 recovered from the northern Sea of Okhotsk during the cruise of the R/V Marion Dufresne (France) in 2001 are described. Sediments from the core bottom are 1.1 Ma old (Nürnberg and Tiedemann, 2004). Lithological characteristics, physical properties, grain size composition, and chemical composition (based on the neutron activation analysis) of clay minerals are studied. Together with published data, our original data provide insights into the cyclicity, trend, and local features of sedimentation in the study region.
