Аннотация
The Barents and Kara seas, fringing the northern rim of the Eurasian continent, cover one of the widest continental shelves in the world. Geological investigations reveal that this vast area has been repeatedly affected by major glaciations during the Quaternary (e.g. Elverhøi et al., 1998a). From time to time the ice sheets expanded onto the Russian Lowland blocking the north-flowing rivers on the continent.
