A tephrochronological study revealed that a phreatomagmatic eruption had occurred ~6500 14C years ago and formed a maar in Lake Karymskoe. Another result of the study was the reconstruction of three episodes of basalt magma injection under the Karymsky volcanic center through a N-trending magma-channeling fault during the Holocene (6500, 5300, and 2600 14C years ago). The last episode occurred in 1996.
