ELASTIC PROPERTIES OF THE EARTH'S CRUST IN THE AVACHA VOLCANO AREA, KAMCHATKA

Abstract

Data on elastic crustal characteristics beneath Avacha Volcano are presented. The upper crust was found to have strongly varying velocities. Zones of abnormal V(p) and high attenuation were located at various depths under the volcano. P-waves and their coda from volcano-tectonic earthquakes were used to estimate V(p) to a 4-km depth and to evaluate Q and its frequency dependence (Q0 ~ 162, n ~ 0.25).
