One of general tasks in technical crystallography of synthetic non-faced crystals is the determining of crystallographic axes orientation. In this case, the common methods, such as the Laue's one or the universal E. S. Fedorov stage, are too complicated and can't provide all needed information. The problem may be solved by transition of a collimated light beam through the transparent crystal plate. Small facets {hkl} made on a plane surface of the specimen with abrasive powder (for materials with good cleavage) or by chemical or thermal etching refract the light beam and positions of refracted rays permit to calculate the orientation of crystallographic axes.
