PROBLEM ON FORMATION OF SYSTEM OF PARALLEL CRACKS IN BRITTLE LAYER

Abstract

Process of crushing the brittle layer has been considered. Mathematical models are used for calculating the deformations and stresses. Simple calculations are provided due to the use of method of finite elements and a number of simplified models connected with averaging. The main target of the study is selection of value of the loading parameter which makes it possible to achieve destruction condition inside the layer. It has been shown that the parameter value is dependent both on relation between the linear layer sizes and on values of elastic constants of material. One-dimensional and three-dimensional cases have been considered.
